Man Utd wrapped up their season evaluation and opt to hold onto Erik ten Hag, with talks reportedly underway on a contract extension.

After Ten Hag's FA Cup victory and the squad's injury concerns were reportedly considered, Gareth Southgate and other candidates were reportedly contacted for the position.

Ten Hag is reportedly in talks with them right now to extend his contract, which is set to finish after this season.

Soon after the FA Cup final, United started their review.

Ten Hag entered the Wembley match against Manchester City with rumors that he would be fired regardless of the result. Rather, United's well-earned 2-1 triumph enabled the club's leadership to take a more optimistic stance towards the review.

It is understood that discussions on the review's conclusion have led to what are being called "constructive conversations" with Ten Hag.

After weighing every possibility, it became evident that the 54-year-old Dutchman should continue to be in command.

It is believed that Ten Hag is happy with the result, despite rumors that he was growing impatient with United's slow pace at reaching a decision.

Two weeks, in United's opinion, is not an inordinate amount of time to evaluate the first season following a change of ownership.

Though he is no longer in the race, former Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel is rumored to have spoken with Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the new co-owner of United, last week. Meanwhile, the club's interest in Mauricio Pochettino, who was available following his departure from Chelsea, waned.

The position has also been connected to England manager Gareth Southgate, former Brighton and Chelsea manager Graham Potter, Brentford manager Thomas Frank, and former Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi.

Southgate's England duties prevented him from being appointed this summer, and Brentford was never contacted about Frank.

Ten Hag has been on vacation in Ibiza with his family.

Despite dealing with a squad beset by injuries all season, Ten Hag was able to secure Europa League status with the Wembley triumph over City.

The evaluation concluded that Ten Hag ought to get an opportunity to demonstrate his additional abilities inside the new athletic framework put in place after Sir Jim Ratcliffe's INEOS took over management of football operations.

Why did Manchester United choose to remain with Ten Hag?

The study conducted by United acknowledged the noteworthy accomplishment of winning two trophies in two seasons, with special attention to the quality of the FA Cup victory over City.

Decision-makers at United are reportedly impressed by Ten Hag's commitment and the professionalism and decency with which he has conducted himself.

Among the other things United took into consideration was the rise of academy products Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo under Ten Hag and his efforts at developing them.
